On a sunny Saturday, 6th September, Henley Ladies 3s travelled to Maidenhead Hockey Club for a pre season friendly against Maidenhead Ladies 4s — and returned home with a well-earned 2–0 victory, the second pre season win before the league starts on the 20th.
The match was full of energy and positivity from the first whistle. Henley showed great cohesion and determination, with strong defensive work at the back keeping Maidenhead at bay throughout. The backline held firm, allowing the midfield and wings to push forward with confidence and energy.
Standout moments came courtesy of a new dynamic mother-daughter duo Jo Corbett and Lizzie Briscoe, who each found the back of the net to seal the win. Their goals not only lifted the team’s spirits to start this new season but also showcased the team camaraderie that Henley is looking to build this year.
The past two matches have also marked the debut of four new players — Jo Corbett, Lizzie Briscoe, Hannah Sullivan-Parish, and Hayley Robertson — who slotted in seamlessly and brought fresh energy and skill to the squad. Their contributions were felt across the pitch, with impressive drives down both wings and solid link-up play.
Leading the team this season is new captain Charlotte Irving, whose leadership and calm presence helped steer the team to victory. The team’s determination to maintain a clean sheet was evident throughout the game with Henley maintaining composure until the final whistle.
With two pre season wins under their belt, Henley Ladies 3s are off to a promising start. Spirits are high, and the team is looking forward to building on this momentum in the coming weeks when the season begins.
