Last weekend the Henley Ladies 2’s faced Windsor Ladies 1s in a closely fought match.

Henley made a confident start with some great passages of play from the centre of the pitch out to the right wing where Katie Butler was able to play the ball down the line to forwards Taminah Brown and Gracie Newbold. Continued pressure by the forwards was rewarded with a number of short corners that unfortunately couldn’t be converted, however a determined run from Holly Verran provided Henley with an opportunity for their first goal. The ball was passed by Verran and hit on the volley by Brown sending the ball into the back of the net. Windsor however, piled on the pressure again and were able to capitalise on a Henley lack of focus and quickly levelled the score. The second goal for Henley came from a hit down the line by Meg Parker which was received by Charlie Wraight before passing it onto Brown who found the back of the net for a second time. The two sides broke for half time with Henley leading.

Windsor came out after half time with a new found fighting spirit which resulted in Henley conceding two quick goals, putting Windsor ahead for the first time in the match. Not deterred by Windsor's success, Henley continued to work hard to apply pressure to the opposition’s defence producing more goal scoring opportunities. Henley’s third goal was scored by Emma England and came from a rebound off the keeper after a straight strike by Rachel Herbert. Determined not to finish with a draw, Henley scored the final goal of the match from another short corner where Herbert slipped the ball right to Wraight who fired the ball into the back of the goal on her Henley debut. Shortly after, the whistle was blown for full time with a score standing at Henley 4:3 Windsor, providing Henley with the three points to push them up another place in the league table. Next week they take on Milton Keynes in a battle for another 3 points.
