After travelling away to Thame for the second game in their new league, Henley were caught napping early on as Thame's first team put 3 goals past them in quick succession!

This blistering start left Henley rather shell shocked, however, they soon rallied and began to get into a bit of a rhythm of their own. As they upped their own pace, Henley began to play some flowing hockey and some lovely attacking moves began to happen. Henley hit back with a score of their own after Rachel Herbert played a wonder pass from the defensive circle all the way through to Jenny Buckham-Hedges on the attacking 25. Taking the ball past 2 scrambling defenders, Jenny turned and with great composure, slipped the ball square to Aglae Jean Jean who slotted the ball calmly home.

Henley's second came from Amelie Bayfield, who's pace up front caused Thame many difficulties as the game went on. On one particular drive, Amelie drove from right to left, turned and broke into the circle. Carrying the ball with great skill, she slotted the ball home at backboard height. Dealing with counter-attacks became Henley's Achilles heal and two further break away goals were scored making the score at half time 5-2.

After a constructive team talk from coach Hayley Rogers, the Henley side played a different second half. Waking up to the requirement for a much higher defensive work rate, they turned over the ball a number of times and put Thame under mounting pressure. Both sides had further chances to score, with Henley keeper - and woman of the match, Georgie Grocock, standing tall and forcing a miss from Thame after a penalty stroke was awarded, however, neither side was able to score again. Henley were heartened by their second half performance (a 0-0) with some great learning to take forward in to next week's home game against Amersham and Chalfont - where they will be looking to secure a much quicker start!
