Henley brought their season to a close with a hard-fought encounter against Amersham & Chalfont, played in dramatic fashion as a sudden hailstorm swept across the pitch and added an extra layer of challenge to an already intense contest.
The match began as a tightly contested affair, with both sides battling for control and neither able to find a breakthrough. The Amersham team were in a scrap for their lives - fighting off relegation, whereas the home side sit safely in mid-table, an admirable position to have achieved after their promotion last season.
Henley showed composure at the back, with Rachel Herbert and Jane Dench distributing the ball confidently and cutting effectively through the Amersham & Chalfont press. Their work allowed Henley to build promising phases of play, although clear-cut chances proved difficult to come by in the early stages.
The deadlock remained unbroken until the third quarter, when Amersham & Chalfont took the lead following a rebound off the post that fell kindly for a simple finish. Despite the setback, Henley responded with determination, raising the tempo and pushing forward in search of an equaliser. Charlotte Hetherington and Caitlin Barrass were both creating and taking on multiple chances up front, but were ultimately unable to convert.
As the game moved into the final quarter, Henley continued to press, but Amersham & Chalfont capitalised once more, scoring a second goal to extend their lead to 2–0 and effectively seal the result.
Emma Joseph delivered an outstanding performance throughout and was deservedly named Player of the Match. Her relentless pressing and work rate disrupted Amersham & Chalfont’s rhythm time and again, breaking down numerous attacking moves and keeping Henley firmly in the contest.
Despite the scoreline, Henley can take pride in a resilient performance to round off their season, showing determination, teamwork, and ultimately finishing at a fantastic position in the table, following promotion last year.
