Men's 4s in 8 Goal Thriller

Henley 4s put 8 goals past Witney in 11 goal thriller on Saturday, to leapfrog the home side in the table. The sharp movement of the Henley front three gave the yellows an early lead, with Ewan Watkins calmly converting a fantastic long ball from Ed Newbold. Moments later some more good work from Ewan Watkins saw the ball being cut back to Ian Rechner who dispatched a fierce first time shot into the top corner. Henley continued their relentless attack and took a deserved three nil lead into half time with Tim Cima getting on the score sheet after some skilful work from Neil Emmett down the left hand side.

Perhaps having been lulled into a false sense of security by the 3-0 lead, Henley came into the second half, by far the worse team, and a dubious penalty flick decision gave Witney a lifeline into the game. However the yellows were able to hold on and Tim Cima’s second, a calm finish into the bottom corner restored the three goal lead, at which point the floodgates opened as Ed Newbold converted a penalty corner before Ewan Watkins got his second with a stunning volleyed strike after a looping pass from Tim Cima. Witney pegged it back to 6-2 before Ian Rechner got his second and Tim Cima completed his hat trick. Despite another late consolation for the hosts it was a dominant Henley performance and sees them jump to 5th in the league.
