Henley hosted Yateley at home having come close to an upset in the away fixture pre Xmas, losing 2-1 in the closing minutes to potential league winners Yateley.
Yet again Henley fielded a changed side from the previous week, however the home side started well and looked competent with some solid passing and composure in the first quarter. The addition of experienced defender, Mark Newman, adding additional options at the back.
An unfortunate penalty flick however put Yateley ahead and Henley’s confidence and composure dropped almost immediately. Henley then failed to restore the movement to open up a strong Yateley side. Henley found gaps but too often possession was lost from simple mistakes and a second and third Yateley goal followed before half time.
Strong words at half time restored Henley’s control and confidence and they looked a different side in the second half, moving the ball around the pitch and testing the Yateley defence. Sadly despite winning a number of short corners and much of the possession, they failed to capitalise on that control.
However Henley were no doubt the better team in the second half and go into their final match against Wycombe with the reassurance that they have the ability to compete against the strongest sides the league.
