Missed opportunities cost Henley three points

Henley 4s put in a disappointing performance against bottom of the table Gerrard’s Cross on Saturday. Gerrard’s Cross got off to a strong start and made many good chances, but Henley’s defence held strong and managed to withhold the torrent of attacks. Halfway through the first half Emmett broke well and offloaded to Alex Morgan who was not able to find the finish. As the game started to even out Henley were finally beginning to create ore meaningful moves. Nick Shuttleworth fired a ball into the box, which took a fortunate deflection off Ian Rechner and span past the goalkeeper to put Henley 1-0 up. On the stroke of half time the home side converted a controversial goal as the game started to heat up.

After half time the game began to stir up as both sides made more frequent chances. Henley forged a good attack but Ian Rechner could not find the finish. Henley’s opposition began to increase the tempo somewhat and started to put on more pressure. Despite this Henley continued to counter and Andy Green missed a golden opportunity. The game started to move into the final few minutes and Gerrard’s Cross attacked a tired Henley defence and managed to squeeze in a goal. In the final few minutes Henley were not able to find the leveling goal and the game ended in a disappointing defeat.
