Henley Men's 2s beat Thame Men's 1s 3-2 at home to stay in the promotion places in South Central Men's Division 2 North.
Henley started brightly. Captain Will Beaumont and Ben Proudfoot combined well down the right, but a late cross sailed just wide of Geoff Joseph who couldn't get the finishing touch.
Chances came a plenty, and Henley eventually broke the deadlock when Proudfoot tucked home another Joseph cross through a deflection at the back post.
Thame hit back quickly. A counter-attacking long aerial ball fell kindly and found its way beyond the Henley defence and into the net.
In a period of end to end play, it was Henley who regained the lead just before half time when Robert Farina struck a clean, powerful effort from a penalty corner to make it 2-1.
Henley started quickly after half time and Richard Woolfrey extended the lead to 3-1 with a precise finish after some neat interplay down the home side's left side. They didn't have it all their own way however and Thame struck back late on to take the score to 3-2. Henley held firm to see out the win and collect three valuable points.
