Henley Men's 2s ran out 3-2 winners against a tough Stains side to stay top of South Central Division 2 North.
The first half was end to end between the two teams, but the deadlock was finally broken by Henley towards the end of the half. George Farthing converted a well-worked short corner routine, finding the bottom corner neatly to put the home side ahead. Stains responded quickly, though, drawing level on the cusp of half time with a short corner routine of their own, leaving the sides all square at the break.
Henley came out strongly after the restart and took control, moving 3-1 ahead thanks to two fine open-play goals. Tim Herbert and Richard Woolfrey both delivered strong finishes to put Henley in a commanding position.
Stains refused to go quietly and piled on the pressure late on, pulling one back to make it 3-2 and setting up a nervy finish, however, Henley held firm in defence and saw out the remaining minutes to claim a hard-fought victory.
