Henley Men’s 2s brought the curtain down on their season in emphatic fashion, claiming a 3-1 victory away to Oxford Hawks 4s to secure a fourth-place finish in South Central Division 2 North.
It was Henley who drew first blood, with Ed Hughes-Burne capitalising on a high press to open the scoring, after the side won possession back deep in Oxford’s half. The lead proved short-lived, however, as Hawks hit back almost immediately with a neatly deflected finish to level proceedings.
Despite Henley’s dominance, the sides went in at the break level at 1-1, leaving everything still to play for in the second half.
The second period followed a similar pattern, with Henley continuing to carry the greater threat, and the pressure eventually told when Robert Farina stepped up to convert a penalty corner — his 12th goal of the season in a campaign that will have caught the eye.
Hughes-Burn then put the result beyond doubt, completing a fine personal display with a moment of individual quality — a cheeky lifted finish over a sprawling Hawks goalkeeper.
