
With Newbury sitting second in the table and Henley close behind in third, the stage was set for a competitive encounter. In the end, it was the hosts who edged the contest, as Henley came up short in a narrow 2–1 defeat.
The first half was end-to-end, both sides creating chances and testing each other’s defence. However, the period will perhaps be remembered more for its flurry of cards, as passion occasionally spilled over and the umpires were kept busy. Neither side was able to break the deadlock before the break.
Henley broke the deadlock early second half. Harry Alderton continued his scoring form, calmly finishing to put the visitors 1–0 ahead.
Midway through the half though, Newbury capitalised on two short corners in quick succession, converting both to turn the game on its head. The clinical set-piece finishing ultimately made the difference.
Henley pushed hard in the closing stages in search of an equaliser, but Newbury managed the game well and saw out the result to strengthen their promotion push.
