Henley Men’s 1st XI earned a hard-fought and deserved point against Staines Men’s 1st XI last weekend, in an entertaining 2-2 draw at Jubilee Park.
Henley were the better side in the first half, creating numerous chances to take the lead. One of these chances was eventually taken by Ben Proudfoot, pouncing on a loose ball in the Staines D, to lift it over the Staines’ goalkeeper into the vacant goal.
Henley doubled their lead just before half-time, as a well-worked penalty corner routine saw Ed Hughes-Burne fire the ball into the away side’s goal.
After halftime, Staines grew into the game and by throwing more bodies forwards, scored two quick-fire goals, the second coming from a penalty stroke, which Henley goalkeeper Lee Rowe-Elliott was close to saving.
With the scores level going into the last quarter, both sides were streaming forward looking to find a winning goal. Henley were presented with a good chance with one minute left on the clock, through a penalty corner, however the away side goalkeeper made an excellent save from Henley captain Ed Foster’s attempt on goal to keep the final score at 2-2.
