Henley Men’s 1st XI strengthened their position at the top of South Central Premier League 2, following a superb 4-1 away win at Oxford Hawks Men’s 2nd XI last weekend, with two goals a piece from striking duo Chris Green and Ed Foster.
Henley captain Foster opened the scoring after 6 minutes, as Green’s pinpoint cross was powered home from close range. Foster was on target 5 minutes later to double Henley’s lead, scoring his 25th goal of the season, with a well-taken penalty corner routine.
With the scoreline 2-0 going into the second half, the away side continued to dominate proceedings and Chris Green scored a third goal following a flowing move down the right wing involving Rhys Joyce and Tim Herbert.
Hawks pulled a goal back with 12 minutes left on the clock, but Henley’s impressive performance was topped with Green’s second goal of the day, and 15th of the season, just minutes later, firing the ball high past the Hawks goalkeeper after some determined and skilful play from right back George Farthing. The goal capped off a fine team performance from the amber and blues.
The result means that Henley will be crowned as champions if they beat Abingdon Men’s 1st XI on the final day of the season this Saturday at Jubilee Park (3 PM start).
