Henley Men’s 1st XI continued their fine form, beating Milton Keynes 5-0 last weekend at Jubilee Park thanks to goals from Geoff Joseph, Harry Rechner, and a hat trick from captain Ed Foster.
On a slow and dry pitch, the league leaders were made to work hard for the points from the outset, as Milton Keynes’ defensive low block proved hard to penetrate. After 10 minutes Henley opened the scoring through Ed Foster, who forced the ball into the net from a tight angle following fine work from Chris Green.
Despite numerous other chances to score, Henley were unable to add to their first half lead and went in to the break just 1-0 up.
The second half was much-improved for Henley, who were now creating chances at will against a tiring Milton Keynes side. Foster grabbed his second of the day on the 45 minute mark, slotting the ball into the goal after some neat play down the left wing involving Jonny Taylor and Tim Herbert.
Geoff Joseph scored Henley’s third on 50 minutes, pouncing on a loose ball following a ferocious drag flick from Adam Herbert. Three minutes later Foster sealed his hat trick from close range, thanks to a wonderful first-time cross from Rhys Joyce, finding Foster unmarked in the D.
The fifth and final goal was scored 5 minutes before the final whistle by man of the match Harry Rechner, volleying past the away side’s goal keeper following a well-worked penalty corner routine.
