Henley Men’s 1st XI drew 2 – 2 with Witney last weekend, in an entertaining top of the table clash.
After a strong start from Henley, their early dominance was rewarded after 12 minutes through captain Ed Foster, whose penalty corner drag flick rifled past the Witney goalkeeper.
Five minutes before the halftime interval Witney equalised with a penalty corner drag flick of their own, neatly executed into the bottom corner of the Henley goal.
The second half was an even encounter, with both teams having opportunities to add to the scoreline. It was Witney who took the lead on the 60-minute mark, again through a penalty corner flick, which Rhys Joyce was unlucky not to keep out on the goal line.
Henley fought back well though and found an equaliser with 10 minutes left to play, again through Foster with another textbook penalty corner drag flick, taking his goal tally up to 12 for the season so far.
Despite chances for either side to take all three points, neither were able to convert them, with the sides having to share the points after 70 minutes. Both sides will look back on what could have been, but a draw was ultimately a fair result in an evenly contested match.
Henley travel to Bicester Hockey Club next weekend, where they will be hoping to get back to winning ways.
