Henley Women's 4s continued their unbeaten streak in the second match of the season in a new league after a convincing 3-0 victory at home against Wycombe 5s.

Taking first push-back, Henley were decisive in the mid-field with Jenny Buckham-Hedges linking neatly with Kelly Woodfin and on up to forward Nina Lloyd to make an early entry into the D. Quick to react, the opposition blocked several attempts on goal, and taking advantage of a gap in the left channel moved the ball back down the pitch towards the Henley third. Ingrid Johnston stepped forward in defence to give a masterclass in hassling whilst Isla Hallett and Evie Quinn continued to block and parry the opposition attackers. As play flowed up and down the pitch with both sides trading attacks and defensive stops, it was Ali Jean-Jean who intercepted the ball and drove the line and passed to Lloyd, who slotted it passed the goalkeeper to open the scoring for Henley. Taking confidence from this early goal, Captain Charlotte Moore turned possession over at the half-way reset. She released Jean-Jean who powered into the circle and found Emilia Ziegler perfectly positioned to extend the lead to 2-0 before half time.

As the second half got underway, Henley were put under more pressure from the opposition who were determined to test goalkeeper Sophia Price’s clean sheet. Capitalising on open space in the mid-field, the opposition surged forward on the attack and although they took several chances, were unable to convert as Price cooly stepped out of goal to kick balls away and knee-slide to block. Regrouping, Henley tightened their defence and transferred the ball up the pitch where they continued to dominate for the final 20 minutes with Nicola Nott and Quinn deflating any attack from the opposition immediately that any challenge began.

Henley piled up short corners without reward until Jean-Jean’s rocket from the top of the D deflected off Wycombe’s defensive wall, was plucked out of the air by Ziegler at the top of the net and guided by her over the top of the keeper’s head. Although the goal was ruled out, the decision only sharpened her focus. Supported by the mid-field, she tore into the Wycombe defence again and after relentless pressure, hammered home the next one beyond any doubt across the goal from wide on the right side of the D. The final result was a great team win for Henley, laying down a confident marker for their 2026/27 campaign.
