Well contested match ends in uncharacteristic goalless draw

Henley entertained Sonning 4s this Saturday, who were mooted to be the better of the two Sonning sides in the division, and indeed that proved to be the case, as they took the attack to the Henley side from the off.

Sonning proved to be highly adept at cutting out and intercepting passes, so it took the Henley players a while to adjust, but adjust they did. Henley began to adopt an impressive pattern of passing play that set the tone for the rest of the match.

Lucas Johnston, George Austin, Dylan Cox and Thomas Wigfield, demonstrating substantial skill and pace, presented a constant threat to an obdurate but stressed Sonning defence, ably supported by Rowan Austin dictating the pace in midfield. Sonning launched the occasional threatening foray, some of which culminated in short corners, but, for the most part, Henley were able to keep the visitors at bay and then launch attack after attack forward.

Alas, despite the constant pressure from Henley, and the brilliant passing hockey on display, no goals were to come and the match ended a very well contested goalless draw.

Henley can be very proud of the way they took the battle to a very experienced Sonning side whose last-ditch defending only just managed to save their bacon. If this kind of pressure, industry and skill can be maintained, the goals will be come and matches will be won.
