Last weekend saw Henley Men’s 5th team first away loss of the league season.
On a cold and foggy late afternoon under flood lights away in Sonning, due to delay from earlier game meant disjointed and later start than planned as light faded, both teams took time to settle. Early exchanges were fairly even but a late short corner strike for Sonning putting them 1-0 up.
The first half was later marred by injury to centre back Chris Proudfoot who’d previously taken a ball full on to his knee, collided soon after with one of Sonning’s on rushing forward and required medical treatment on the pitch – had to leave for the safely and warmth of the clubhouse as half time whistle was sounded early.
The second half saw Henley reorganise their formation to accommodate Chris’s loss, Sonning pressed and made use of their extra subs to eventually run out 3-0 winners, scoring two late short corners to secure the win and foil Henley’s attempts to come back into the game.
