The Antelopes won their first three games, then lost a fourth game against Reading before facing the mighty Henley Bears. It was a tight, hard-fought game, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Player of the Tournament for the Antelopes was Emma Jean-Jean, who ran strongly and scored so many goals the team lost count. Hugh Jenkins, playing his first tournament, was also very impressive, calm on the ball and running all over the pitch. Noah Cottam, Sophia Cunliffe and Georgie Grocock built on their previous tournament days to bond further as a team and all put in excellent performances.
The Bears won three and drew two. Sophie Broom’s tackling and dribbling was excellent, Toby Lane worked hard in defence (diving twice to save certain goals) and attack, Avila Cooper showed very good vision and was very strong on passing all around her and Lottie Cotton was solid in defence, making some crucial tackles. Will H unfortunately retired injured after the first game.
Despite some technically impressive performances from the Henley Cheetahs, they were unable to secure a win in any of their five matches. Player of the Tournament was Annabel Spriggs, who listened really well and put in some good tackles in defence. Bridget Ashby, Frances Sadler, Freya Hillman and Isla Walsh Smith also earned praise from their team manager for looking to make the right choices on and off the ball, demonstrating good stick skills and for their unfailing enthusiasm and cheerfulness throughout the morning.
