Boys continue run of form

Henley Boys returned to league action on Sunday against a potentially tough Staines side but in a confident mood following their 5-4 win against Reading.

Henley started the game with a high tempo, moving the ball around smoothly in the first quarter. They took the lead early on after Jamie Taylor rounded several players to lay on a pass for Zack Barrass to finish off. Maintaining their shape well, the boyd continued to lay siege to the Staines goal, adding a second with a superb individual effort from Alfred Carey, firing the ball home from the top of the ‘D’ after an amazing solo run. Not to be outdone, Alex Kind soon added a third with a rocketed shot from the top of the D.

Henley entered the second quarter looking for more of the same, but lost shape a little and conceded an own goal following a quick Staines break.

The second half saw Staines maintain more control and they were able to trouble the Henley goal again, soon adding a second goal. Henley had to regain control and stepped up to the challenge. Shortly before the end of the third quarter a through ball from Zack Barrass to Man of the Match, Alex Kind secured Henley’s 4th.

In the final quarter, and as the teams began to tire from the fast pace and end to end nature of the game, Staines scored a 3rd and tensions were being felt across the pitch. In the final few minutes, Henley were able to pull away, Archie Gummer adding their 5th having battled through some strong tackling to score from a tight angle. As Staines continued to push, Henley netted their 6th with a sniper strike from Albie Tomlinson to take the game away from Staines.
