SODC awards maximum available grant to HHC so volunteer umpires can be reimbursed in full for Hockey Association Level 1 umpiring qualifications

Henley Hockey Club (HHC) has been awarded the maximum available grant under the volunteering grant scheme, by South Oxfordshire District Council. The grant will pay for up to 15 volunteers to attend an England Hockey accredited Level 1 umpiring course.

With the increased emphasis which both men's and women's leagues are placing on the need for qualified and insured umpires, it is essential that HHC has the means to encourage volunteers from within the existing membership and from outside the club to officiate matches. "This grant means that for the first time, the financial burden of paying for courses will not have to be born by individuals or the club", said Julian Herbert, HHC Chairman. "We are most grateful for the speed with which SODC processed the application and made the award".

Anybody wanting to get involved as a volunteer match official should contact chair@henleyhockeyclub.co.uk.
