Whistle-gate drama against Eastcote

On Saturday, Henley Ladies 1s travelled to Eastcote ready for a competitive and challenging game.

As soon as the whistle went, Henley attacked hard keeping the ball in Eastcote’s half of the pitch. Sensible play by midfielders Jemma Barham and Meg Moran kept the ball transferring and moving up the pitch, linking creatively with Louisa England, Emma Buckham-Hedges and Charlotte Cockerton. Some incredibly dodgy umpiring and several Eastcote fouls later, Henley’s grit and determination was awarded when the ball was slotted over the line by forward Billie Moore. 1-0 Henley. Unfortunately, the umpires were lacking in experience and what was to follow ruined the game. Despite Henley playing one of their best games this season, it seemed the whistle was against them. Eastcote took advantage of the extra decisions given to them and were able to score two goals to take the lead. Not much could be done about the unfair decisions being made, making it difficult for Henley to come back fighting. Although a disappointing and frustrating game, coach Jen Buckham-Hedges said the team did everything she asked for and couldn’t have done any more.
