Green secures 3 points for Ladies 1s
Saturday saw Henley Ladies welcome local rivals Marlow to Jubilee Park.
Following a disappointing foray to London the previous week Henley were determined to get back to winning ways.
The home team started well and were quick to mount attacks on the visitors and it was the Marlow goalkeeper who was most definitely the busiest in the first half. Henley came close on a number of occasions but the Marlow keeper was too sharp and managed to turn aside every Henley attempt.
At the other end Marlow could only muster one shot towards goal but that whistled wide without troubling Hannah Lavis in the Henley goal.
The second half saw Henley keep up the pressure and a flowing attack, started from the back, allowed Henley to win a short corner only ten minutes in. A well worked routine from Georgie Metcalfe to Kat Green allowed top goal scorer Lou England to slot the ball home and the crowd went wild!
Henley worked hard to capitalise on their lead and came so close to adding two or three more, but the Marlow keeper was in amazing form and managed to keep out any further attempts.
The last ten minutes of the second half got really scrappy and two unwarranted yellow cards for the home side gave Marlow some hope. Henley held on though for a well deserved three points with a man of the match performance from Kat Green.
Henley pick up their campaign in two weeks away at West Hampstead.
