Watkins takes a brace, but misses easy hat-trick, in strong performance by Henley.

Henley 4s got back to winning ways with an emphatic 5-1 win over Newbury and Thatcham this weekend. Having suffered a poor run, losing 4 games on the trot in the league, the yellows were determined to get a win against the side just 3 points below them in the league, and their strong start was rewarded with an early goal, Ed Newbold smashing in a short corner, after Tim Cima was fouled in the box. Moments later the hosts went two nil up, with a classy goal straight off of the training ground. Good work down the right from Max Hems and Lawrence Marshall set up Tim Cima who squared to Ewan Watkins, who with the keeper beaten, deflected the cross into the top corner.

Going into half time 2-0 up, Henley were certainly in control but the game was by no means dead and buried, however they took one step closer to all 3 points after Neil Emmett converted after having his first shot, a brilliant sliding deflection, saved by the keeper. At 3-0 up Henley were heading back to winning ways and their brilliant performance was further consolidated as Ewan Watkins tapped in his second of the game, and Ian Rechner finished off another great Henley move. Despite a late consolation from Newbury, it was all round a fantastic performance and should see the turning point of Henley’s season.
