Father and son both score hat-tricks!

The Henley 4th team boosted their league campaign this weekend with a 9-2 hammering of a somewhat poor Staines side on a chilly Saturday morning. Henley started off really strongly as Ian Rechner made a good run into the area and pulled off a very strong shot into the bottom right hand side. Henley continued to pile on the pressure but Staines countered and a long ball into the Henley goal took a fluffed deflection and rolled past the despairing reach of Dave Bowyer in the net. Staines got another goal in minutes as a short corner was finished well by the Staines striker. Henley dug deep before half time and a storming run by Ben Brindle fed Nick Shuttleworth who converted with a sensational first time reverse into the bottom corner. Moments later Ian Rechner picked up the ball and after comfortably rounding the keeper finished into the empty net. The game went into half time at 3-2 to Henley.

Right after half time the game began to turn Henley’s way. Staines conceded a short corner and Ian Rechner picked up a third goal via a cool finish. Henley were now definitely on top of the game and a good run by Ewan Watkins found James Rechner who managed to squeeze a tight finish into the bottom corner. By now Henley were in cruise control and the tired Staines side were not getting any touch of the ball. Ben Brindle made a good run and his shot was deflected in by Ewan Watkins to make it 6-2. Henley’s 7th goal came from another deflection with Ian Rechner deflecting his son’s shot into the net to get his 4th goal of the game. James Rechner made it 8 with a really good shot from a short corner. Henley’s final goal made a record for the club as great build up play ended in a James Rechner shot burying into the net. This game was the first time in Henley Hockey club’s recent history that a father and son had each got a hat trick in the same game.
