Henley 3s lost again this weekend, this time to high flying Wootton Wanderers. The ex East Midlands team
were in fine form coming into the match and Henley knew what they were up against. Shortly into the first
half Will Gresswell came onto the receiving end of a great ball through the Wootton defence but his goal
ward shot was brilliantly cleared off of the line by the last opposition man. The opposition countered quickly,
winning a short corner which was converted with a stroke of luck. Wootton's star man ran the Henley
defence ragged and a blistering run resulted in a fine shot which baffled the Henley keeper. With the last
play of the half, Wootton won a short corner but their drag flick was saved by a reaction deflection from Mike
Cordrey which kept the deposit at two goals
After half time all hopes of a Henley comeback were wiped out when a string of long passes led to a the
Wootton forward producing a beautiful finish which even the best of keepers would have had difficulty
saving. At the end of the game, another Wootton counter looked likely to put Henley to sleep but the on
rushing Tony Conway Hughes was able to run past the goal and deflect the aerial shot.
A consecutive defeat for Henley but as has been seen in earlier performances there is a strong desire in
the team and if they keep their heads and play together results will surely start to go their way.
