Henley 2s 1 v Abingdon 1s 1

With influential skipper Pricey missing for the second consecutive game with a mysterious South American bug, Henley came into this game on the back of 2 wins, a draw, and a defeat since the Christmas break.
Hopes were high with the introduction of a new kit and stand in skipper Boumphrey made some changes at the back bringing Wiseman into sweeper and Dan Austin moved across to right back.

The unusual sight of the sun during the warm up was a welcome change, however it didn’t last long as come hit off the heavens opened. With the wind in Henley’s favour, they started brightly forcing a number of short corners, however Abingdon themselves were finding plenty of the ball and causing problems at the back. Foggoa was at the top of his game as he was called into action on a number of occasions in the first half.
It was Henley who opened the deadlock, good work by Hughes-Burne and Harmer down the right led to Herbert’s shot being kicked away from goal by the Abingdon defender. The umpire didn’t hesitate to give a penalty flick. Hughes-Burne stepped up to the mark and clinically beat the keeper to his right and side.

Going into the second half Henley were confident to increase their lead and take the win they wanted, and although Henley dominated possession, clear cut chances were few and far between. Instead it was Abingdon who struck next with a break away goal.

Although Henley lifted themselves they were unable to force a winner and the match ended 1-1. This result leaves Henley lying in 5th place in the league, they’ll hope to push on from here and get back into the top four.
