2s win to move up the table

3 first half goals from Henley saw off the OMT challenge.

Early goals proved crucial to help Henley move up to 3rd in the table. The second half weather conditions turning the match into an unlikely scrap.

Henley started much the better & turned the lion share of possession into goals. They have dominated the majority of first halves this year, without reward. Today was different, as a great team move culminated in a simple finish at the far post for Dan Herbert.

The away side continued to pressure their hosts goal, and it was only 10 minutes later when Forrester finished a set piece courtesy of a deflection off the unwitting defender. Not to be left in the shadows, left back James Moore went on a mazy run down the flank & managed to get to the baseline. With everyone expecting the cross, Moore had other ideas & slide the ball past the keeper from the narrowest of angles. 3-0 at half time & Henley well on top.

Just like in the movie ‘From Dusk till Dawn’, the half time interval was the point where the game took a much darker tone. As the skies closed in, North London was subjected to a heavy downpour. Technical difficulties meant the players didn’t have the benefit of floodlights which certainly hindered the quality of play on both sides. It got darker & wetter with conditions becoming increasingly difficult to play hockey in. This effectively ended the contest as neither team could create much. OMT did manage to score a corner midway through the second half, but otherwise didn’t really threaten.

The visitors were comfortable for most of the second half, with the exception of a moment of madness from keeper Bowyer. Dissent to the umpire & he was sent to the sin bin to have a think about himself. Henley managed to see out the remaining minutes to take the points home with them.

Next Saturday they take on Ramgarhia @ Jubilee Park.
