Henley 2s 2 vs Harrow 1s 2
The Men’s 2s first home game was welcomed by dark skies & heavy rain. It didn’t dampen the spirits of the side, who set about their task strongly in the first 20mins of play. With much of the possession & territory, it was only a matter of time before the home side took the lead. Not the case – with one of the few chances for Harrow in the first half was converted & it was a 1-0 lead they took into the break. Patience & focus were the key messages from the half time talk.
If you continue to do the right things, you will get the deserved results. A well worked corner routine which resulted in a tidy finish from Measures. 1-1 with 20 mins remaining. It was at this point the game took an interesting turn. A scuffle in the Henley D led to a yellow card for one of the Harrow strikers. Play continued until a number of people realised the sin binned player had returned back to the playing field moments after being sent off. This escalated proceedings & certainly impacted the umpires span of control. Another card for Harrow followed, which meant 11 vs 9 for a short period of time. Somehow, against the run of play the home side managed to allow Harrow to take the lead for a second time. Waves of pressure from Henley forced an equaliser from Woolfrey with 10 mins left on the clock. The game started to stretch a little as both sides looked for the winner. There wasn’t one, and the game ended in stalemate. Disappointing for who Henley dominated the play & the chances. However, it was good to see the battle from the side & that resolve will serve the team well as the season develops.
