Solid start for Men's 2s

Henley 2s got their league campaign off to a good start on Saturday with a 4-1 win over newly promoted Maidenhead 2s. Henley started the brighter, and threatened the home goal on numerous occasions, but were thwarted by the some impressive Maidenhead goalkeeping. They were left to rue these missed opportunities when the home side converted a short corner after 15mins. Henley continued to pressure the home goal, but couldn’t find a way past the in-form keeper, despite having 5 short corners.

Half time gave the squad a chance to re-set & come up with a less frantic way to unpick the Maidenhead defensive unit. By offering more width & more patience, Henley turned their dominance into goals. Woolfrey scoring the equalising goal after 40mins. A few minutes later and the travelling side took the lead. A short corner scored on the breakdown by Woolfrey.

Taking the lead only served to whet the away sides appetite for more goals. Wave after wave of attacks ended with a neat finish from Man of the Match Ed Hughes-Burne. With 10 mins to go, the game was effectively killed off as Rechner finished off after some scrappy play in the D.

There was still time in the match for Henley to earn one final chance from the penalty spot, but veteran Herbert saw his attempt saved by the ever impressive Maidenhead goalkeeper.

Henley host Harrow 1s next week, and will be looking to build on a solid performance.
