haps
apologies for the late email - work got in the way of hockey admin this week.
Another big game - they all are... Milton Keynes are just above mid-table. They score big but let a lot of goals in.
From our discussion after the game last week, I took away a couple of things:
- we need a default position that we can resort to when we're not in the game
which could be that:
- we understand how to set up a press as a team
which means
- we need to be more directional with some positions about expectations
To that end, there are loads of things on the press on t'internet, these links are for the full press:page 15 of http://www.fieldhockeybc.com/portals/0/files/coaching/tactical/generaltacticalmay07.pdf or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl9zi-fkYRs. It requires us all to commit to it - from the above links you'll notice how high and over to one side the full press is. We will try and spend some time talking about it before the game.
I feel we've been missing a connection between the back 5 and the front 5 so the other element is that during normal play we need to get into the habit of moving the ball forward to the midfielders, especially the top diamond, who can post-up/lead to the ball or make arcing runs. Otherwise we find that the everyone becomes a bit 2 dimensional eg 'I only go/pass sideways or backwards or not at all.'
Lastly, the Dinner Dance is all set up the ready for you to buy a ticket. Details are on the website and you can buy a ticket and make a menu choice on line through the website or pay me the money. Please confirm your attendance or provide a decent excuse why not.
