Henley mens 2s v Sonning mens 2s. Score 1-4

Following the team’s first win of the season the previous week, Henley 2s started the match in high spirits. Henley worked hard to break down Sonning’s attack, with some great defensive work from Cooke and Austin keeping out Sonning’s seasoned strike force. Unfortunately Henley conceded an early short corner and despite a valiant effort from keeper Bowyer, Sonning converted to lead 1-0. Henley played some good attacking Hockey with link-ups between captain Herbert in the midfield and the two forwards Measures and Harmer. However, Henley struggled to pass the ball consistently and didn’t create many chances to score. Just before the half time whistle, Sonning were awarded their second short corner and again converted. Henley were 2-0 down at half time.

After a focussed talk at half time, Henley started better in the second half. Maidlow created chances on the left and it was only a matter of time before Henley were awarded a well deserved short corner. The corner was superbly executed and Measures found the back of the net in what looked like a well-rehearsed routine.

Henley continued to play well with young Cheeseman and Pollard niggling Sonning’s midfield in a passionate attempt to get the score level. Henley were beginning to play better hockey and Measures and Harmer created more chances in opposition’s D. A clearly-riled Sonning had a player shown a yellow card and temporarily sent off. With an extra man, Henley tried to capitalise but it wasn’t to be. Despite passionate tackling from Austin and passionate words from Pollard, Henley couldn’t continue their winning streak and Sonning scored two open play goals to finish the game 4-1.

Next week Henley face local rivals Milton Keynes who are currently one place behind Henley in the League.
