In a scrappy match at Jubilee Park, Henley Men’s 1st XI went down 4-1 to London Wayfarers. Henley started brightly, with early opportunities to take the lead through Jonny Taylor and Luke Gupta, both chances saved by the USA International goalkeeper of Wayfarers. Wayfarers scored twice in the space of 15 minutes to take a 2-0 lead into half time, although Henley were creating more chances and had the lion’s share of possession.
Five minutes after halftime, Henley deservedly pulled a goal back through Ross Hibberd, after Rhys Joyce drilled a pinpoint cross into the away side’s D. Minutes later, Henley had a chance to equalise through a penalty corner, however Ed Foster’s flick was changed down by the Wayfarers’ runner, resulting in a sucker-punch break-away goal as Henley were left stranded at the wrong end of the pitch.
Wayfarers sealed the win with a penalty flick 7 minutes from time, after Emmett in the Henley goal fouled a Wayfarers’ player who was about to find the back of the net.
