After a postponed match last weekend, Henley started the second half of their league campaign with a game at home versus high-flying Spencer.
Spencer started the game with more promise, dominating possession and territory for the first 15 minutes however, the Henley defence held strong with comfortable saves from Roy Cox, some effective penalty corner defence and some excellent diving tackles from Robbie Mortimer.
Henley grew into the game and had their own penalty corner opportunity, with Gupta's nemesis, the sideboard again thwarting him.
Deep into the first half, Spencer managed to develop an overload down their left hand side and a well worked move saw a cross to the far post tipped in by the Spencer player for them to take a 1-nil lead.
In the second half, Spencer continued with the lion's share of possession but Henley looked threatening on the break on numerous occasions. The game remained one nil and with a few minutes left, Henley tried their luck with a kicking back. Two open goals (both missed by Spencer), a short corner for Henley and an impossible save by the Spencer keeper from an Ed Foster volley saw an eventful finish to the game, but no further score.
Henley will take encouragement from a reasonable performance and look forward to building on the positives from this game.
