Henley rue missed chances

Henley travelled to Old Cranleighans Hockey Club last Saturday, in what would prove to be a frustrating afternoon.
On a very cold day, Henley started the match strongly, with plenty of possession in the opposition’s half.

Luke Gupta and Chris Green combined well to force early saves from the Old Cranleighan’s goal keeper, but against the run of play the home side took the lead with a counter-attack goal. Henley then hit the post from a short corner minutes later, which proved to be a costly piece of misfortune.

With the score 1-0 at half time, Henley were certainly in the match, but a goal just after the break for the home side was another set-back. Despite Henley still looking dangerous and having the lion’s share of possession, Cranleighans again scored another break-away goal as the away side were pressing higher up the pitch.

To end a bad day, the home side then added a fourth goal from a short-corner with 5 minutes left to play. Despite the 4-0 loss, Henley had much of the possession in the match and showed plenty of promising signs as they head into three important matches against teams in the lower half of the Southern Premier League table, starting with Milton Keynes at home (1.30 pm start on Saturday 28th November).
