The home side controlled the game in the first half, having the best of the chances, and working on the goalkeeper on numerous occasions, however, they were only able to make this pressure count in the closing stages of the first half. A smart save from a shot from new skipper Sam Heaver fell kindly to the side's top scorer from last season Ed Foster, who calmly lifted the ball into the net to give Henley the lead going into the break.
The home side were pegged black against the run of play, with Slough scoring from a harshly conceded short corner, however the men in amber wasted no time in restoring their advantage, this time with club record goalscorer Chris Green opening his account for the season. With Slough finding themselves a man up, following cards for Luke Gupta and Geoff Joseph, they pressed for an equaliser. However, this left the away side exposed at the back, and a smart counter attack by Henley allowed them to extend the lead to 2 goals, man of the match Matt Riches finishing tidily at the far post.
Slough continued to push forward, and bagged themselves a second, leaving the home fans nervous for the final few minutes, however these nerves will have dissipated as Henley again expertly executed a counter attack, with Foster - coach Joyce's words ringing in his ears - ignoring the calls from Geoff Joseph on his left (yet to score or assist this year), and passing right to Green to finish off the move into an empty net.
Henley travel to Bournemouth next weekend looking to extend their winning run.
Result: Henley 4-2 Slough
Scorers: Foster, Green x2, Riches
Man of the Match: Riches
