Foster's late winner sees off Edwardians

League leaders Henley travelled to London knowing they couldn’t slip up with teams chasing them down as the season nears its conclusion.

In recent weeks Henley have been slow off the mark, but to their credit, this was not one of those weeks. The visiting team moved the ball around well, keeping the ball and controlling the pace of the game. The possession soon resulted in a number of good passing exchanges and with quick succession the visiting team had scored 4 quality goals through Luke Gupta, Jody Measures and two from Geoff Joseph. The team approached the half way mark feeling confident and it was only through some quality saves by the home goalkeeper that kept Henley from further increasing their lead.

The home team made some slight adjustments in the break and came out strong, putting the defence of the visitors under waves of attack. With the pressure mounting, a misdirected pass out of defence resulted in a well taken goal. The home team drew confidence from this and continued to put pressure on the Henley team. As a result, 2 more goals were scored to create a nervy final 10 minutes.

It was the Henley captain Ed Foster who drew strength and with a good passing move he found himself in the circle, dispatching a ferocious strike neatly into the far corner of the London Edwardian’s goal to give the visitors a welcome 2 goal cushion. This was to prove invaluable when Edwardians converted a penalty corner soon after to make it 5-4.

The Henley team then saw out the final 2 minutes and secured the 3 points which keeps them at the top of the league with two matches of the season remaining.
