Goals galore at Jubilee Park

Henley’s first home match of 2015 was against Barnes Hockey Club, a team they had beaten 4-0 away from home on the opening day of season. Keen to retain their place at the top of the league, Henley were in a bullish mood and the performance reflected this from the outset.

In the opening half of the match Henley dominated proceedings and went 4 goals up within the first 35 minutes; Tony Gaze, Rhys Joyce, Richard Woolfrey and Chris Green all on target after some outstanding flowing hockey from the home side, with David Ralph controlling the game from midfield.

Hoping for much of the same in the second half, the home crowd were not disappointed and were treated to a goal extravaganza. Henley captain Ed Foster scored twice in 5 minutes to all but end the match as a contest, followed by Chris Green’s second and third goals of the day to make the score 8-0 with 15 minutes to play. Whilst the home side were busy celebrating Green’s third goal, Barnes scored a neatly taken consolation goal, as Roy Cox in goal was beaten by an astute close range finish.

The chances of an extremely unlikely comeback were soon ended by the home side however, as they wrapped up a 10-1 victory with two late goals by Jonny Taylor and a brilliant volleyed finish by Jody Measures. As the final whistle sounded Ed Foster had the chance to complete a hat trick, but his drag flick was acrobatically saved by the Barnes goal keeper.
