Hosts cruise to comfortable victory

Henley’s outstanding start to the season continued with a comfortable victory over Tunbridge Wells at Jubilee Park on Saturday.

Following an energetic opening, Henley made the breakthrough with man of the match Rhys Joyce forcing ball over the line, after Jonny Taylor turned over possession on the left flank and released the offensive.

Henley doubled their lead shortly after on a penalty corner. The ball striking the post from a deflected shot, and new signing Mani Kochar was there to finish from short range.

The hosts were in the ascendancy and added a third before the break. In-form Luke Gupta weaving through the Tunbridge defence and striking the ball early to wrong foot the visitor’s goalkeeper.

Heavy rain graced the start of the second half, but the deluge of goals continued for Henley. Rhys Joyce added another, directing from a penalty corner into the roof of the net. Ross Hibberd fired in a fifth, latching onto a rebound from a further penalty corner. Luke Gupta then converted a great team move to add to the double from the previous week.

As Henley pushed forward looking for more, Tunbridge managed a consolation goal before the final whistle. The win maintained Henley’s winning streak in the league and puts Henley outright at the top of the table for the first time this season.
