Henley 5s draw against Harrow 2s
Henley 5s work hard to earn draw against almost unbeaten Harrow 2s
Henley Hockey Club Men's 5th XI played their first match of 2018 away against Harrow 2nd XI.
Top of league team Harrow managed to steal an early lead 15 minutes in to the first half. Ian Rechner equalized shortly afterwards, skilfully dribbling the ball through the Harrow defence and deftly lifting the ball in to the back of the net. Harrow proceeded to score a second goal and taking the lead just before the whistle was blown for half time.
A second goal came for henley early in the second half from a short corner; Ian Rechner stopping the ball, then passing to Jon Grocock who made a square pass to David Corke who knocked the ball neatly in to the goal.
Henley continued to play well and to maintain pressure upon Harrow. Junior player Henry Davis controlled the midfield and git a great job and breaking up the opposition's play. Henley then took the lead with a dramatic third goal; Ian Rechner taking the ball up through the midfield before making a pass to Jamie Furness who passed the ball across the D where a full length diving strike from Andy Farrow sent the ball in to the goal and hard against the back board.
Harrow stepped up their pressure on Henley in the final quarter with goal keeper David Rechner pulling off some really good saves against Harrow's attempts at scoring. One save even being cleared off the goal line after a couple of failed strikes at goal by Harrow. None the less, Harrow with three substitutes on hand to help them keep up the pressure, Henley eventually conceded a further two goals.
In the closing quarter of the match, Henley managed to step up the pressure on a frustrated Harrow team who by now had realised they were not going to come away with an easy win against Henley. Henley's fourth and equalizing goal was stabbed home by David Corke.
