Our 3rd league game versus Amersham was at home at 4.30pm. In goal we welcomed the return of Joe Sylvester (thanks to Ed Hems for standing in last week, press-ganged from the side of the pitch! - your header save will be remembered for a long time!!). In defence we had Piers Edgell taking on the sweeping role (having promoted Dino Chesseman up to the 4s this week). In centre back, Alan Mortimer, normally playing up front, was persuaded to have a go in defence (and made a few tackles early on) but slotted back in up front in the second half. On Alan's right was Enzo Cheeseman who made some nice runs up the right connecting well with Charlie Shaw in right half. On the left was newcomer to the club Simon Mack making his first league appearance. Fantastic start showing he had not lost his skills. Commanding midfield was Ian Rechner who harried the opposition D with a several shots on goal and ultimately was responsible for setting up the one goal scored by Henley. To his left was Duncan Grey who was a safe pair of hands in a tough game. Up front was Evan Bowyer on the left and Henry James on the right, both of whom spent some time in defence as well as midfield proving how versatile they were. Andy Farrow was another new player to the league and the 5s, and made his debut in style scoring with lightning reactions off a rebound save from Ian Rechner's shot on goal, fantastic stuff. The team was completed with myself and Jules substituting on up front. Despite our efforts with a few shots on target, we could not beat the Amersham keeper. We went behind after 15 mins after a messy scrap resulted in the ball scraping over the line, but Andy's goal brought us level going into half time. Half way through the second half after solid spell for Amersham, the finally managed a shot on target (after numerous shot wide of the goal) and got a deserved goal. The points went to Amersham, but it could easily have gone the other way, so we can hold our heads up, and take we learning to be a bit more assertive on the ball and retain possession. Well done everybody.
