Chances aplenty but no goals for Henley U14 Boys after an hour of end-to-end entertainment for the spectators.
This Henley development side showed huge potential and no lack of skills. Perfectly able to break down either flank, through the pace of Toby Phillips and Danny McAllister and the strength of Will Parsons, Henley couldn't find the finishing touch to their attacking play. Chances fell for Enzo Cheesman, Elliot Fielder, Dino Cheesman, Charlie Shaw, Henry Davis and the wingers but the Ashford goalie was too strong and the clinical finishing of a few weeks ago was missing.
Goalkeeper Evan Bowyer, was busy throughout and kept his side in it for the first period. His willingness to come off his line and his attacking style made life tough for the Ashford forwards who were thwarted many times throughout the game. The man of the match accolade was richly deserved.
The Henley defence were tighter on man-marking this week and Kian Alliston and Joe Selvester managed to defend further up the pitch, helping to stem the Ashford attack. Stevie Hood did well in both centre and wide defensive positions and coped well playing above his age group. But the Henley defence was broken by the speed of the Ashford attack and lack of defensive numbers left Bowyer exposed too many times. This team is improving rapidly and clinical finishing, stronger passing and team structure will make all the difference.
