A promising start to the season from this development team resulting in a 2-1 defeat. The final scoreline did not reflect this incredibly close encounter in which Henley took the lead in the first third as Danny McAllister, on his league debut for the U14s, slotted the ball home. Pressure from the opposition took its toll in the final third and Phoenix stole the winner.
Positives for Henley included the speed of wingers of McAllister and Toby Phillips, both of whom managed to maintain Henley's width and create chances. Joe Selvester, Dino Cheesman and Kian Alliston defended with increasing confidence as the game progressed. Henry Davis and Charlie Shaw worked tirelessly in midfield, linking well with the forwards. Goal chances were created for McAllister, Elliot Fielder, Enzo Cheesman and Shaw but the Phoenix goal keeper was dominant and Henley have work to do on getting shots on target.
This development squad also welcomed hockey newcomers Tom Petrie and Wallace Fisher who acquitted themselves well. Thanks to Freya Meeks who stepped in as goal keeper and made several fine saves during the afternoon.
