Open letter to members from club president Chris Baker, invites views about the long-term future of Henley Hockey Club's clubhouse at 353 Reading Rd

Dear Member

For quite some time there has been speculation about a new clubhouse for Henley Hockey Club (HHC) and although we do not believe this will happen before 2018 at the earliest we think it is time that the members became involved with this.

I am setting out below some information which I believe is relevant to this development which I would ask you to read and make any comments you feel are relevant. From these comments we will create a survey which will ultimately create a decision for HHC going forward. So here goes:

  • The new club will be located on the grass on the other side of the road to our current position
  • The club will face and be located on the edge of the Astro roughly centred on the goal as you go into the Astro but behind the fence. We would want an outside balcony to enable spectators to watch any game. This is the best location we can get.
  • The club would be built on two storeys with changing rooms underneath and the club social area on the upper floor
  • It will be kitted out with a bar, kitchen, seating and a variety of rooms for our purposes
  • It is likely the same building will be the new clubhouse for AFC Football and sense would indicate their club would face the football pitches
  • Changing rooms, showers, umpires changing rooms will be provided on the ground floor. These may have a common use.
  • There is a consideration currently ongoing that suggests HHC and AFC Football have common facilities with specific parts being separated for use by HHC and AFC in their own right. This decision will ultimately be yours to be made at the time of the survey.
  • Whether HHC has a joint or its own club HHC will be responsible for running the bar, utilities, fire system, cleaning and running our own financial affairs. It is unlikely our costs or any charges currently in place would reduce i.e. rent

Once we get your comments on the above we will create a survey which will ask 3 very obvious questions:
1. Do we want to stay where we are? If so we will probably have to spend in the region of £20,000 to improve our facilities.
2. Do we want to move as a club across the road having a Club of our own?
3. Do we want to have a joint clubhouse with AFC Henley?

Please give thought to this and reply to me on the email address below by midnight on 21st May so we can get the best view of our members. After all it is your club.

Regards

Chris
