Solid start to the second half of the season for Men’s 2s

With the Christmas break over it was time for the Men’s 2s focus to be set for the rest of the season, que a mid-week captains meeting. The wise old man had been locked away in his study all holiday forming a winning plan that will see the mighty Henley 2s charge their way to the top of the league. A few inspiring words later RW had us so riled up we were ready to storm a CASTLE.

Role on game day, Henley hosted Maidenhead 2s. After a brilliant warm up a strong Henley 2s where ready to face a tricky Maidenhead team. Henley came out the gates a bit to direct and got caught off guard by a strong Maidenhead start which saw the visitors go 1-0 up in the first 10 minutes. A swift adjustment in the Henley formation saw them shut down the Maidenhead attack and allowed the Henley strikers to get to work. Through ball retention and some fine team play, Henley saw finishes from JHB, H and RW to start half time 3-1 up.

After a half time re-group, and the Christmas break out of the system, a clinical second half was the aim. And straight away things fell into place. Controlled passing out of the Henley 23 and quick play through the midfield as well as impressive individual skill up front left the Maidenhead defence out played and coming apart with 6 unanswered goals in the second half. Meas, JHB x2 (Hat trick), RW, Tim and H all finding the net.

A 9-1 win against a team that always felt close in it. Henley travel to league leaders Harrow 1s next week, and will be looking to deliver a top performance.
