| < OHA News . . . . > Issued: 13-April-2003 Oxfordshire Hockey Association held their second end-of-season Presentation Evening at Oxford Brookes Sports Centre during the evening of Saturday 12th April 2003. Frank Cordrey, the OHA president opened the proceedings thanking all the volunteer coaches and managers for their time but also recognised the very important role that each of the parents provides in giving positive support to their own children and the squad as a whole. Mark Scarth (Oxfordshire's Active Sports Activator) overviewed some of the Active Sports work of the year and said that the successful Player Development Centres were again in place this year to provide the county hopefuls with eight weeks quality coaching prior to selection of the county squads. Mark then presented Nick Malden with the Active Sports Volunteer of the Year award in recognition of the huge amount of time and effort which Nick has put into Oxfordshire County and Rover Oxford Club activities throughout this and previous seasons. Each manager and coach briefly summarised the efforts and results of the season and presented each member of their squad with their County Badge (and Colours where achieved) as well as the Players' "Player of the Year"' award which had been voted for by each squad member. < OHA News . . . . > Issued: 01-December-2002 On Friday 29th November 2002, Oxfordshire Active Sports held their inaugural 'Coach of the Year Awards'. The event was organised to recognise volunteer coaches and managers throughout the Oxfordshire Active Sports partnership area. Eight sports were represented including hockey. Nominations were sent in by clubs and judged by a panel organised by Active Sports. This year there were five categories for the awards :
We are delighted to report that Steve Vermeulen (OHA Juniors & Rover Oxford) won the overall Coach of the Year and his wife Annie was there to collect the trophy on his behalf. It is no more than he deserves for his work with youth hockey, club development and sporting advocacy. Equally many congratulations to Linda Billington (OHA Juniors & Witney) who collected the award for Young Persons Coach of the Year. Those of us who work with Linda know the tremendous amount of enthusiasm and hard work she puts into the sport. Her award is very well deserved. Hockey was well represented with other nominations for Dave Allcock, Nick Malden, Jenney Nunnelly, Mark Scarth, and Nic Watson. I'm sure everyone involved in Hockey in Oxfordshire will join in congratulating Steve and Linda on their achievements. < Ends . . . . > |
