The Young Guns team turned out with record numbers for this last fixture of this summer league. The team has shown massive improvements since they beg

Henley Young Guns played Thame this week, a new club to this summer league and a mostly adult side, however the girls (ably assisted by their usual adult players), were not to be put off. They started well, building the play out from the back where Della, Kati, Phoebe and Anna now perform solidly, frustrating the oncoming forwards with their tackles followed up with their distribution. They were able to find wide players, Miffy, Pippi and Tilly, who now have the confidence to attack up the line, look for the forwards or play the ball inside to Rach, Wendy or Kat to transfer the ball further. The game was tipped in Henley's favour as the youth of the team frustrated the Thame side again and again, allowing them only the occasional counter attack. Forwards Emily and Ella were getting plenty of chances and also led the defence with their hassling and attacking, however, it was midfielder Tilly that opened the scoring.

After yet another attacking passage of play a shot went in, which the keeper saved. The ball rebounded to Tilly in space in the D and she calmly controlled the ball and slapped it back at the goal, slotting it past the keeper to make the score 1-0 and bagging her first goal in an adult side! After this Henley continued to play well, despite getting drenched by the lovely 'summer' weather, however somewhat against the run of play in the second half the Henley defence stepped off the gas a little. Despite sliding out on the edge of the D and making the initial save, Hannah was unable to save the second shot, so scores were even at 1-1.

This was enough to jolt Henley back into action and back to attack they went. In one particular passage of play the ball worked its way up the righthand side of the pitch with Della, Pippi and Rach. Into the attacking 25yd area they went and the ball was fed in to Ella on the shoulder of the D. Pippi, continuing her run along the baseline, called for the ball and Ella responded by dropping it into her path. From this tight angle Pippi spotted a gap at the near post and fired the ball at her target, a resounding thump on the backboard her reward!

Final score, Heney 2 - 1 Thame
