Ladies 1s back to winning ways
This weekend, the ladies 1st XI headed down the road to local rivals Reading.
Henley starting strong from the first whistle and looked on top of the game. With Henley's back three of Kat Green, Kath Draycott and Sophie Hoskins holding off any form of attack that Reading could offer, Henley were able to catch Reading on the counter attack, which led to some great attacking chances finally giving Henley the opportunity to put their well drilled short corner routines into practice. Georgie Metcalfe slotted Henley's first goal from a well-executed short corner set up by Kat Green. Henley regrouped and continued to create strong chances, but Reading came back stronger and caught Henley on the back foot, from which they were able to win themselves a short corner, with the first shot ably stopped by Hannah Lavish Reading were straight onto the rebounds where they narrowly missed out on a pre half time equaliser by hitting the post. Leaving the score at half time 1 - 0 to Henley.
With Henley entering the second half positively in high spirits, they immediately forced pressure onto Reading on all angles of the pitch with their strong press that Reading struggled to break. This led to Henley winning a short corner which saw Emma Buckham-Hedges score a cracking straight strike into the bottom right hand corner, leaving Readings goalie with no chance. Again, this gave Henley an even greater boost to continue their dominating play with great interlink play from defence up to the forward line. But once again Henley were caught on the counter attack which saw Reading convert, making it 2 - 1 to Henley. Henley remained calm and eager to secure this vital win came back stronger with a lifted intensity, which saw them win another short corner that Louisa England deflected into the top right hand corner, finishing the game giving Henley a 3 - 1 victory.
