Strong 3 points for Ladies 1s
Second league game into the season and Henley Ladies were up for a tough game against Milton Keynes.
Henley set out hard from the start which set a high tempo for the game. It wasn't long until Henley were 1-0 up. Jemma Barham’s skillful play saw her fly past Milton Keynes defenders down the left hand side and working with Sophie Hoskins tightly, they soon found Captain Georgie Metcalfe who fired it home. A couple of chances later, Henley were awarded a short corner, which saw Rachel Herbert’s powerful strike saved by the keeper. Metcalfe once again got her stick on the rebound which found Henley 2-0 up.
After half time Milton Keynes played a tight defensive press making it harder for Henley to drive forward. However the Henley players were pushing themselves to keep the high tempo with Kiera Halloran and Taminah Brown’s baseline runs pulling apart the Milton Keynes defense. Henley were back in full force accelerating forward. After a few missed chances Henley was awarded a short corner. Perfectly executed, Herbert took a clean strike to find the back board which left Henley 3-0 up. Against the run of play, Milton Keynes made some fast breaks from their defense but Henley kept their composure to keep the score 3-0 at full time.
Jemma Barham was awarded player of the match.
